Lenten Recital 1 - The Choir of Lincoln College, Oxford

  • St Nicolas Church Forest Hill, Oxford OX33 1EB UK (map)

A short recital of Lenten music centered around William Byrd's Mass for four voices. Other composers included span across the centuries to John Tavener, and the choir's own current composer, Eunseog Lee.

The choir of Lincoln College holds a reputation as one of the finest mixed-voice chapel choirs at the University of Oxford.  Containing between 16 and 18 members, the choir gives talented singers the opportunity to make music in a more intimate setting at a detailed and high level. During term time, the choir's modest commitment includes a weekly Sunday evensong and Wednesday evening rehearsal, with the occasional additional service for major church and college feast days. This allows the choir to pursue exciting concert and touring schedules outside of the busy university term time.
Drawing its members from across Oxfordshire, in and outside the university, the choir also maintains an active social life and strong community spirit.

St Nicolas Church is hosting a series of short concerts at 2.30pm on Sunday afternoons during Lent.  Each concert will last 40 – 45 minutes, after which tea and coffee will be served.  Entry is free but there will be an opportunity to make a voluntary donation towards the upkeep of the church.
