Four Parishes ‘Virtual Choir’ Guide Tracks
This page contains rehearsal material for our ‘virtual choir’ recordings. Please listen to the ‘Guide Tracks’ and read the Recording Instructions below very carefully before creating your recording.
RECORDING INSTRUCTIONS
First of all, please note that it needs to be an audio recording, and not a video one. You should have an app on your mobile phone or tablet for this – on my Samsung phone it is called Voice Recorder and on iphones and ipads I believe it is called Voice Memo. If recording is your thing, you may have something more sophisticated, like a handheld all-in-one recorder, but you can use whatever you like, as long as the output is an audio file (e.g. mp4a, mp3 or wav).
The ‘backing track’ recording below contains the accompaniment with me singing the tune. You may also find it useful to print out the words and music (click on the relevant button to access a PDF). You need to play the ‘backing track’ on one device (e.g. a laptop or ipod) with headphones plugged into one ear, and record yourself singing along on another device, e.g. a mobile phone (like a sort of karaoke). You will be singing along with the ‘backing track’ but the sound of it will not be picked up by the microphone. The point of doing it this way is to make sure that you are in time with the accompaniment. Do make sure that you listen carefully to the 'backing track' all the way through before you start to record yourself.
You should end up with a recording of just your voice, singing on your own. Don't worry about empty space or strange noises at the beginning or end of your recording and don't give up at this stage because you don't think your recording is good enough, because I can edit out most noises and fix any obvious problems. When you send me your recording, I will mix it in with the others so that it sounds as if we have a whole choir singing together. You can listen to previous recordings here.
